Robert A. DeSanty Sr., 82

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert A. DeSanty Sr., 82, of 64 Demond Ave. died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in North Adams on Oct. 26, 1931, a son of Andrew and Lillian Scrivens DeSanty, he attended the former St. Joseph's Elementary and High schools. A varsity baseball player, he graduated in 1949. Mr. DeSanty was the owner and operator of DeSanty Plumbing and Bathroom Remodeling, which he successfully ran from its establishment in 1973 until his retirement in 1994. He was first employed by Ashley Swift as a plumber for 25 years. After his retirement he and his wife, the former Lorraine Charron, wintered in Florida. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. An avid sportsman, Mr. DeSanty played semi-pro baseball and used his knowledge and abilities of the game to coach Little League in North Adams. He was a member of the Berkshire Spartans Club and played softball, bowling, billiards and golf. He was a longtime member and ranger of Waubeeka Golf Links. He was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, and also enjoyed trips to Saratoga in New York. Besides his wife, whom he married on April 19, 1952 at the former Notre Dame Church in North Adams; he leaves seven daughters, Sharyn Dupee and her husband, Richard, Lynne Pause and her husband, Wayne, Brenda Ferris and her husband, Robert, Kimberly Beverly and her husband, Joseph, Laurie Gazaille and her husband, Mark, Cindy Cantoni and her husband, William, and Melissa Bryce and her husband, William; four sons, Robert DeSanty Jr. and his wife, Susan, Marc DeSanty and his wife, Patrice, Steven DeSanty and his wife, Lynn, and David DeSanty and his wife, Megan; a brother, Richard DeSanty and his wife, Karen; 29 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law Phyllis DeSanty. His brother James DeSanty died in 2012. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. DeSanty will be Monday, Sept. 22, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA & HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in care of the funeral home.
