Jason A. Murphy, 32

POWNAL, Vt. - Jason Alan Murphy, 32, of North Smithfield, R.I., formerly of Pownal, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at his home. Born in Stoughton on Jan. 29, 1982, a son of Lawrence and Diane Hartman Murphy of Williamstown, Mass., he attended school in Pownal, where he was active in youth sports including Little League. He graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington with the class of 2000. He was a four-year varsity letterman for the football and baseball teams. In 1997, while playing football, he broke the Vermont state record for the longest field goal with 45 yards and, in 1998, he broke his own record by kicking a 49-yard field goal, a state record that still stands. He graduated from Franklin Pierce College in 2004 with a degree in education. While at Franklin Pierce, he was a member of the baseball team. Mr. Murphy a successful businessman and owner and operator of the Murphy's Paint Co., serving Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. He enjoyed playing men's softball but most importantly, he loved his children. Besides his parents, he leaves his son, Dustin Murphy, and his daughter, Mary Iadarola, both of Pascoag, R.I.; four sisters Brenda Little and her husband, John, Robin Nelson and her husband, David, Michelle Murphy and Karen Belanger and her husband, Paul; a brother, Michael Murphy and his wife, Ellen; nieces Christine, Meghan, Brenda, Beth, Melissa, Bonnie, Allie and Alicia; nephews Mike and Alejandro; a grandniece, Kaylee; grandnephews Wesley and Antonio; two uncles, Ray Hartman and Doug Murphy, and many cousins, and his best friend and business partner, Lisa Beausoleil. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert S. Hurley Jr. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Murphy will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, Mass. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

I am so very sorry for this great loss. I knew Jason as a kid when I first moved to Pownal. He was a funny, clever, adorable kid and a damn fine ball player.
