Clare E. Langer, 87

ADAMS, Mass. - Clare E. Langer, 87, of 1 Berkshire Square died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in North Adams on Feb. 15, 1927, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Quinn Fitzgerald, she attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1944. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Elms College in Chicopee in 1948. Mrs. Langer taught elementary school in the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District, retiring from C.T. Plunkett School in 1985. Earlier, she had taught at the former Mark Hopkins Elementary School in North Adams. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II and had been a longtime communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church, where she had sung in the choir and made wreaths for the annual Christmas bazaar. In recent years, she became a volunteer at the St. John Paul II Charity Center. Her husband, F. Raymond Langer, whom she married on Oct. 12, 1950, died on Nov. 15, 2010. She leaves a son, Thomas Langer and his wife, Andrea, of Ashburn, Va.; two daughters, Anna Skorupski and her husband, Edward, of Stillwater, N.Y., and Nora Curran and her husband, Michael, of Manchester, N.H.; three grandchildren, Jessica Langer and Timothy Curran, both of Manchester, N.H., and Sara Curran of Somerville; her sister-in-law, Eunice Langer of Adams, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Sara F. Langer on Jan. 28, 1983, her brother, Joseph Fitzgerald, and her sister, Mary Vrabel. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mrs. Langer will be on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. from Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John Paul II Charity Center, PO Box 231, Adams, MA 01220 or to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Rd., Holyoke, Massachusetts 01040.
