Florence Wineberg, 94
ADAMS, Mass. - Florence Wineberg, 94, of Orchard Street died peacefully Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., daughter of Samuel and Sophie Gold, she attended Vassar College.
Mrs. Wineberg was a volunteer monitor at Recording for the Blind for many years, and a life member of Hadassah.
She was a member of Temple Anshe Amunim in Pittsfield and Congregation Beth Israel in North Adams, and active in many civic organizations. She played golf until age 89 and was a winning bridge player well into her 90s.
She and her husband, Mervin Wineberg of Adams, president of Adams Super Markets, were married in 1946. Mr. Wineberg died in 1979.
They were avid golfers and traveled the world on golf trips with friends.
She leaves her devoted children, two daughters, Ellen Wineberg of Watertown and Susan Gold of Williamstown; a son, Howard Wineberg and his wife, Deborah Apkin Wineberg, of Adams; her brother, Burton Gold and his wife, Miriam, of Poughkeepsie; four loving grandchildren, Rebecca Gold Cellana and her husband, Dan, Adam Gold and his wife, Rosemary, and Danielle, Mara and Simon Wineberg; two great-grand-children; her sister-in-law, Anne Gold, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Herbert Gold and Myron Gold.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Wineberg will be held at Congregation Beth Israel, 53 Lois St, North Adams at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
A memorial shiva at the home of Susan Gold will be held from 7 to 9 on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 25 and 26.
