Joseph J. Davis, 94

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph John Davis, 94, of 73 Meade Ave. died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 13, 1920, a son of Said and Amelia Haddad Davis, he graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1940.

A decorated Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served with the 78th Fighter Squadron as a corporal.

Mr. Davis was employed for many years at the former General Cable Co. He also worked part time for many years at the Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown.

He was a communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael in Williamstown. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and fishing.

He and his wife, the former Ruth Suthers, were married Oct. 15, 1949, in the former St. Francis' Church.

Besides his wife of 65 years, he leaves three sons, Bruce Davis and his wife, Joyce, of Clarksburg, Timothy Davis and his wife, Nancy, of Baltimore and Kevin Davis and his wife, Teresa, of Adams; a brother, Najib "Pat" Davis of Adams; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Pontier, Heather Carpenter, Kaitlin VanDeausen, Kelly O'Shea, Laura Davis, Joseph Davis and Michael Davis, and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Lawson, and four brothers Philip, James, George and Frederick Davis.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Davis will be celebrated Saturday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Family and friends are all welcome to go directly to the church.

Graveside services with full military honors will take place Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at the family plot in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 13, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Patrick's Food Pantry through the funeral home.
