William E. Circe, 90

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - William E. Circe, 90, of Lancaster, Pa., died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at his residence. Born in North Adams, he was the son of Ernest and Mary Alice King Circe, he earned his bachelor's degree from St. Anslem College in New Hampshire and his master's degree in labor and economics from Fordham University in 1952. A Navy veteran of World War II veteran, he enlisted in 1943, first being assigned to the submarine service. He was transferred to the surface fleet and participated in the Invasion of Normandy and at Anzio. He then served in the Pacific, surviving his ship being torpedoed and sunk, eventually serving in the Occupation of Japan. Mr. Circe had worked for the RCA Corp. in the Personnel and Human Resources Department at locations in New Jersey, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, including Lancaster, from which he retired in 1987. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lancaster and the former St. Francis of Assisi in North Adams. He and his wife, the former Frances E. Slattery, were married on Dec. 30, 1950. Besides his wife of 64 years, he leaves three daughters, Mary E. Circe and Ellen C. Fisher, both of Lancaster, and Patricia A. Caskey and her husband, Howard, of Canfield, Ohio; three sons, William E. Circe and his wife, Pauline, of Morganville, N.J., Thomas J. Circe and his wife, Patricia, of Sugar Hill, Ga., and James M. Circe and his wife, Kim, of West Chester, Pa.; his brother, Robert J. Circe, of California; his sister, Mary E. "Betty" Mahar of North Adams; and his nine grandchildren, D.C., Peter, Elizabeth, Laura, Molly, Bailey, Delaney, Morgan and Mike. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Donald W. Fisher and his grandson Timothy P. Caskey. FUNERAL NOTICE - A calling hour will be held Tuesday, March 24, from 10 to 11 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider making a contribution in Mr. Circe's memory to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602, or to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
