Franklin R. Chittenden, 92
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Franklin R. Chittenden, 92, of Pines Lodge Park died Friday, April 3, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 7, 1923, a son of Fred and Netti White Chittenden, he attended schools in Pittsfield. He moved to Williamstown in 1991.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he serving as a technician, fifth grade, with the 458th Amphibious Truck Company.
Mr. Chittenden was employed at Dale Brothers Cleaners, then as the manager of Royal Cleaners, both in Pittsfield, until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of First Congregational Church in Dalton and of Disabled American Veterans.
His wife, the former Barbara Farrar, whom he married July 24, 1943, at First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, died Nov. 13, 2013.
He leaves three daughters, Sandra L. Overlock of North Adams, Beverly Cannon and her companion, Mickey Brennan, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Debra Ubertini and her husband, Michael, of Dalton; two grandchildren, Joseph Overlock and his wife, Ali, of West Sand Lake, N.Y., and Amber Ubertini of Dalton; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Meaghan, Ethan and Glenn, and a former son-in-law, Milton Overlock.
The last of his immediate family, Mr. Chittenden was predeceased by six sisters, Millie Knight, Gladys LaPointe, Bertha Powers, Hazel Gilbert, Florence Robitaille and Beatrice Loose, and three brothers, Fred, Lawrence and Irving Chittenden.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Mr. Chittenden will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, in Pittsfield Cemetery.
