Phyllis M. Spofford, 85
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Phyllis Marie Spofford, 85, of Clarksburg and Dunedin, Fla., died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Born in North Adams on April 11, 1930, the daughter of John and Marie Lepage Fountain, she graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1947.
Mrs. Spofford was employed for 45 years as a service representative for New England Telephone and its successor, Verizon. She was last employed full time at Developer Finance Inc. in Williamstown until in August 2014.
She was also a volunteer at Dunedin Hospital. She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Incarnation Church and was an avid sports fan and bridge player. She enjoyed an active lifestyle with a rigorous exercise regime.
Her husband, Roy Francis Spofford, whom she married Aug. 9, 1952, died in 1994.
She leaves her devoted son, John Michael Spofford of Dunedin, and her best friends and partners in crime, Doris Spofford and Debbie Gibeau.
She will be dearly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews with whom she enjoyed a very close and sassy relationship.
Her daughter, Teresa "Terry" Spofford, and her siblings John Fountain, Marie O'Brien and Frances Hurley, predeceased her.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs Spofford will be celebrated Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. from St. Elizabeth's Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 29, from 4 to 6 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for Sun Coast Hospice in Palm Harbor, Fla.
