Dr. Thomas P. McGrory, 83
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Dr. Thomas Patrick McGrory, 83, of North Adams died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015. He had been a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington for the past five years.
Born in North Adams, son of John F. and Emily Betti McGrory, he graduated in 1949 from Drury High School and attended the former Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox. He graduated from Holy Cross College and received his doctor of medicine in cardiology from Georgetown University in 1958.
A Navy veteran, he served for 12 years, including as staff internists at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Annapolis. He left the service with the rank of lieutenant commander.
Dr. McGrory began his private medical practice after leaving the service. He joined the Community Health Plan in 1992, practicing medicine until his retirement in 1997.
He had been a member of the American College of Physicians.
He leaves his devoted wife of 42 years, the former Cynthia Tovani; his six daughters, Mary Helen, Colleen, Maureen and Joan Marie, all from a previous marriage, and Lowry McGrory Nicsevic and her husband, Paul, and Beth McGrory Foggo and her husband, Thomas; his son, Thomas McGrory, also from his previous marriage, and a number of grandchildren, including Emily Nicsevic Berry, Paul Nicsevic Jr. and Thomas J. and Bryce P. Foggo. He will be missed by his loyal friend William Clapper.
His brother, John McGrory, predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Private services for Dr. McGrory will be held at the convenience of the family at the Vermont Veterans Home. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
