Carolyn Elva Oakes, 81
MONROE, Mass. — Carolyn Elva Oakes, 81, of Monroe, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at North Adams Commons.
Born in Montpelier, Vt., on Feb. 11, 1934, daughter of Harold E. and Rachel E. Lavanway Barney, she attended schools in Bristol, Conn.
Mrs. Oaks was last employed by Williams College for several years until her retirement. Before that, she worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield.
She enjoyed gardening.
Her husband, Richard Forrest Oakes, whom she married on May 28, 1955, died on Oct. 29, 1999.
She leaves two daughters, Sharon E. Oakes and her companion, James A. Bua, of Monroe and Kelley F. Spadafora of Merritt Island, Fla.; a son, Russell R. Oakes and his wife, Helen, of Monroe; a sister, Audrey Watson of Bristol; six grandchildren, Sara Modena, Danielle Oakes, Jacob Oakes, Lindsey Wilson, Ryan Spadafora and Cassie Hannan; two great-grandchildren, Lilah and Piper, and nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Clive Barney, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mrs. Oakes will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be private.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 10 to 11. Memorial donations may be made to the South Readsboro (Vt.) Community Club or the Readsboro (Vt.) Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
