Theresa M. Grande, 95

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Theresa Mary Grande, 95, of Notch Road died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, surrounded by her family.

Born in Borgia, province of Catanzaro, Italy, on Aug. 11, 1920, daughter of Leonardo and Vincenzina Cerevola Alcaro, she attended schools in Italy and came to the United States in 1935.

Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Grande assisted her brother, George Grande, in the operation of the former Alcaro's Italian Imports on Eagle Street.

Primarily a homemaker, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. A deeply religious person, Mrs. Grande had a devotion to St. Anthony.  She also had a passion for traditional Italian cooking. In 2009, she traveled to her hometown of Borgia after 75 years and reconnected with her family there.

Her husband, Peter Dominic Grande, whom she married on July 14, 1956, died on June 8, 1999.

She leaves a daughter, Amalia Theresa Grande of Pepperell; two sons, Joseph Anthony Grande and his wife, Wendy, of Dalton and Leonardo Gaetano Grande and his companion, Sharon Shepard, of North Adams with whom she made her home; four grandchildren Kyle Ohrenberger, Elizabeth Grande, Juliana Amalia Theresa Ohrenberger, and Peter J. Grande; and nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by two brothers, Gregorio "George" Alcaro and Leonardo Alcaro

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Grande will be Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Grande's family would like to thank the caregivers who assisted them with her care for the past four years including Karen, Phyllis, Carolyn, Ellen, Nancy, Krista, and Marge.
