Domenica M. Curletti, 94

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Domenica M. “Mecca” Curletti, formerly of 138 Parkside Ave., passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at Springside of Pittsfield Rehabilitation and Skill Care Center, where she had most recently resided. 

Born in Pittsfield on May 9, 1921, she was the daughter and only child of the late Joseph and Marietta (Massetti) Petrini, also of Pittsfield and formerly of Asti, Italy. She attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She and her husband John C. Curletti (deceased March 11, 1985) were married on May 20, 1946, upon his return from service in the United States Army during World War II. 

Domenica and John were co-owners of the former Curletti’s Supermarket along with John’s brother, Eugene, and his wife, Angelina, both of whom are deceased. Domenica later worked for Pittsfield’s elementary schools as a teacher’s aide, retiring in 1982.

She was happiest being a homemaker and enjoying time with family and friends. Domenica was a communicant of All Souls’ Church until its closure in 2009 and was an active member of its Ladies Society. 

She leaves her daughter and only child, Christine M. Schroeder and her husband William of Cobleskill, N.Y.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Domenica M. Curletti will be celebrated Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.S.S., officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. 

Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, will be Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County or Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
