George J. Naventi, 92

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — George J. Naventi, 92, of Moscow Road in West Stockbridge died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Laurel Lake Center in Lee. 

He was born in Lee on December 18, 1923, the son of John and Teresa Trovatelli Naventi and was educated in the Lee Schools. Prior to World War II he worked at the former Clark Aiken Company in Lee.

Mr. Naventi proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Ranger during WWII with the 263rd Infantry Regiment 66th Infantry Division from April 1943 until October 1945 followed by the European theater for 16 months until being discharged as a Staff Sergeant on April 9, 1946.

After the service George joined his brother, Julius “Mickey” Naventi, in the operation of the East Lee Diner. In 1957 he joined the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, retiring in 1986 as foreman of the Lee Maintenance Department.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in West Stockbridge and former Scout Leader for Troop #37. He served on the West Stockbridge Fire Department from 1953 until 1974, retiring as a Captain. 

He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Bona, whom he married on January 31, 1953; his son Robert W. and his wife Sandy; his sister, Josephine “Irene” Boyne and her husband Tom of Lee; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Naventi was predeceased by his son, Mark J. Naventi in 1983; his six brothers: Henry “Rico,” Paul, Herman, Julius “Mickey,” John, and Louis; and his sisters, Mary Masiero and Katherine Bona. 

Funeral notice: The funeral for George J. Naventi, who died May18, will be held on Tuesday morning, May 24, 2016, at 9:15 a.m. from the Kelly Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in West Stockbridge with Msgr. John J. Bonzagni, Pastor, officiating. 

Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be Monday, May 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations to St. Patrick’s Church in care of the Kelly Funeral Home at 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238.
