Virginia M. Field, 93

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Virginia M. Field, 93, a lifelong resident of Cheshire, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.

She was born in Cheshire on March 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Mabel Lappies. She was educated in Cheshire and Adams schools and was a graduate of Adams Memorial High School.

Mrs. Field was primarily a homemaker; however, at one time worked as a bookkeeper for Canteen. She was a member of the Cheshire Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, animals, especially dogs, crossword puzzles, crafts and knitting.

Virginia is survived by two sons, Wayne A. Field of Cheshire and Michael D. Walter and his wife Nancy of North Adams; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister, Patricia Lagenback; a cousin, Robert Rathbun; and a nephew Norman Lappies.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold F. Field, who died March 21, 1994; and her brother,Norman L. Lappies.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for Virginia M. Field, who died May 23, 2016, will be held at the Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home on Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. William D. Furey. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in the Cheshire Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or the Cheshire Fire Department in care of the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
