Rita A. Wandrei, 86

ADAMS, Mass. — Mrs. Rita A. (Pelletier) Wandrei, 86, of 4 Columbia St., Adams, died Wednesday evening, May 25, 2016, at Williamstown Commons. 

She was born in Salem, Mass., on May 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Nere and Anna (Simard) Pelletier. She lived in Worthington and Springfield as a child and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. 

Mrs. Wandrei last worked at the former Waverly Fabrics in Adams, until retiring when it closed. Earlier, she had worked as a waitress at the former Evelyn's Dairy Bar and Mohawk Hotel in Adams. Before returning to Adams, she lived in Savoy for 10 years, where she had served as the Town Treasurer. 

She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, where she was a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne, and was a former member of its choir. 

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, making homemade doilies, and spending time with her family. 

Her husband, A. William Wandrei, whom she married on April 3, 1948, died on September 25, 1988. 

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Witherell and her husband Gary of Cheshire; 

two sons, Thomas Wandrei and his wife Catherine of Savoy and William Wandrei of North Adams; three sisters, Jeanette Goodwin of Springfield, Mass., Constance Gittles of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Joan Beaver and her husband Thomas of Belchertown, Mass.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Deborah Wandrei. 

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 9 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. 

Calling hours are Tuesday, May 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 877 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
