Barbara A. Williams, 72

HANCOCK, Mass. — Barbara Ann (Preite) Williams of Hancock died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a 4 1/2-year fight with cancer.

Barbara was born in North Adams on Oct. 2, 1943, to the late Albert and Doris (Feirro) Preite. She graduated from Drury High School and went to work as a secretary for Sprague Electric Company. She later lived in Williamstown, where she became employed by Mount Hope Farms as a Housekeeper.  She then met the love of her life her husband, Roger F. Williams, whom she married on June 11, 1983, and made her home with in Hancock for the past 34 years - a home filled with her love of the country cottage style, her pride and joy only matched by her love for the gorgeous gardens she and Roger planted around it. She also enjoyed crafting many different things over the years, bird-watching, quilting, cribbage and good times laughing with her many friends. She touched everyone she met. Barbara was "one of a kind."

She leaves behind a daughter, Cherie Walden-Carter, and her husband Harvey (Trey) of Pownal, Vt.; four grandchildren, Scott (Robbie) Smith, Chase Smith, Trey Carter and Adrianna Carter; cousin/brother Brian Barcomb; nephew Jeff Sweet; niece Kacee Sweet-Daly; her best "lifelong" friend Gail (Mclain) Bolza; and her beloved Yorkshire terrier Sparrow.

Funeral notice: A funeral to celebrate the life of Barbara Williams will be Monday July 25, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in Hancock Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. The family is having a get together after the burial at Roger and Barb's house and invites everyone to join them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.

Sometimes there are no words to define the beauty of a person or the loss when they are gone. This is one of those times.
