Kevin Toomey, 66
LEE, Mass. — It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin Toomey announce his passing on July 26, 2016, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on July 14, 1950, the son of Daniel and the late Jane McKeon Toomey. He was educated in the Lenox and Lee Schools, was a 1968 graduate of Lee High School and a member of its 1966 and 1968 undefeated Intercounty League Championship Football teams. In 1974 he received his B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts and in 1979 his MED certificate of advance studies from Springfield College.
From 1991 until 2011 Mr. Toomey was a school psychologist at Berkshire Union Free School District in Canaan, N.Y. Prior to that, he was the senior psychologist at the Nevada Youth Training Center in Elko, Nev., from 1986 until 1991. From 1981 until 1987, he was a senior Probation Officer for the Clark County Juvenile Court Services in Las Vegas, Nev. After retirement Kevin began a cast iron restoration business called That Pan Guy.
Mr. Toomey was proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of the Pittsfield Irish Sister Organization. He was also involved, along with many of his family and friends, in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Las Vegas, Nev. He had fond memories of family trips across the U.S. and in Ireland. He enjoyed volunteering, sports, concerts and especially time spent with his beloved grandchildren.
Besides his father Daniel of Lee, he leaves his wife, the former Valerie S. Finch, whom he married September 10, 1976; two sons, Sean and his wife Carissa of Adams and Colin and his husband Tony Barnini of Pittsfield; four brothers, James and his wife Donna of Lee, Brian and his wife Lina of Pittsfield, Patrick of Las Vegas, Nev., and Thomas and his wife Karen of Lee; a sister, Kathleen Leslie and her husband George of Laceyville, Pa.; his two grandchildren, Quinn and Kevin Toomey; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Toomey was predeceased by his two brothers, Daniel and Michael.
A special thanks to the BMC Cancer Center, especially the 4th floor infusion nurses, who helped coping with his treatments. Also to Dr. Touhey and the staff on 5 West for all of their help in his final days.
Funeral notice: Funeral services for Kevin Patrick Toomey will be held Friday, July 29, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be Thursday, July 28, from 4 to 7 p.m.
