Paul P. DiVirgilio, 96

LENOX, Mass. — Paul P. DiVirgilio, 96, of Devonshire Estates, 329 Pittsfield Road, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.

He was born in Pittsfield on March 28, 1920, a son of the late Antonio and Laurenzia (Sciarra) DiVirgilio. He attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1938 and also graduated from Berkshire Business College.

Paul was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at General Electric Co. for 35 years and retired from the Ordnance Dept. in 1982.

He was a longtime communicant of the former All Souls Church and was presently a communicant of St. Mark’s Church. Paul was a member of the Central Berkshire Holy Name Society and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Marshal Council #103. He was past treasurer of Local 254, volunteered for R.S.V.P. and enjoyed gardening and traveling.

His wife, the former Rita Calvo, died on January 18, 2003; they were married on July 11, 1942.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony R. DiVirgilio and his wife Linda of West Stockbridge and Paul D. DiVirgilio and his wife Deborah of Becket; one daughter, Susan D. Gilligan and her husband Mark of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Amy Kotski of Pittsfield and Tina Mitchell of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, David DeVirgilio and Dario DiVirgilio; and his sister Rose Vallone.

Funeral Notice: In accordance with Paul's wishes, there are no calling hours and services will be private. Entombment will take place in St. Michael Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA. 01201.

Sorry to read of Paul's passing. He was a great guy. I worked at the bank when he was a parking attendant. Always a smile and a kind word. Sorry for your loss.
