A. Barbara Duval, 88
ADAMS, Mass. — A. Barbara Duval, 88, of 7 Pinnacle Drive, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in North Adams on Aug. 29, 1927, daughter of Frank and Anna Cahill Kirby, she attended North Adams schools, graduating from Drury High School. She also graduated from the former North Adams State College.
Mrs. Duval retired as a switchboard operator from the former North Adams Regional Hospital. She had first worked for the former New England Telephone Co. in North Adams, then took time out to raise her family, a job that she loved. She returned to work for several years at the former Stonemarketing Corp. in Adams.
She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II and was a former member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Rosary Sodality and the Adams Study Club.
An accomplished bridge player, she enjoyed traveling, shopping at Macy's with her girls, going to the movies with her boys, and spending time with her family. She was a fan of old movies, John Wayne and Tom Brady. She was also a caregiver to many friends and relatives, giving them rides to appointments and running errands for them. She was a fine example of a true lady.
Her husband, Russell E. Duval, whom she married on July 11, 1956, died on June 30, 1988.
She leaves her five daughters, Marcia Williamson and her husband, Dana, of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeanne Wilk and her husband, Paul, of Cheshire, Sandie Boisvert and her husband, Bruce, of Stamford, Vt., Pat Nicklein of Northport, Fla., and Betty Hickey of Huntington, Calif.; her three sons, Russell Duval and his wife, Pam, and John Duval and his wife, Debbie, all of Adams, and Henry Duval of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kirby of North Adams; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, JoAnn Correll, and by her brother, Francis Kirby.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Duval will be held on Friday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m. from Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, pastor. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations to help fight the illness that afflicted her late husband, Russell, may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 264 Cottage St. Springfield, MA 01104.
