DALTON, Mass. -- Friday's Hoosac Valley at Wahconah football game will see the two teams battle one another for a season-ending win.

And it will see the two schools join forces to help benefit Berkshire County children.

Students from both high schools will be on site to collect money to support the Berkshire County Sheriff's Toys for Tots campaign.

Toys for Tots enables boys and girls -- newborn to age 14 -- in Berkshire County to receive gifts at Christmas. With the support and assistance of the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, Toys for Tots has been able to meet the challenge of the growing needs of the children of Berkshire County.

Knowing that Hoosac Valley and Wahconah Regional High Schools have been athletic rivals for many years, this is an excellent opportunity for the two schools to join forces and support and organization that gives back. In addition, this aligns with the MIAA’s Pillar of Service.

Although the Cheshire and Dalton schools are rivals in all sports, this is the first meeting on the gridiron since 2016. The game was scheduled by the MIAA after each team lost its Western Mass semi-final contest last Friday; this weekend marks the final week of play in the commonweatlh for teams not advancing out of sectional play or playing a Thanksgiving Day rivalry game.

Hoosac Valley comes into Friday's 6 p.m. game with a record of 8-1. Wahconah is 5-4.

If donating by check on Friday evening, please make it payable to Marine Corps League Pittsfield Detachment 137. The schools will accept donations through Friday, Nov. 22. All donations will be mailed to The Sheriff’s Office after that date.
