DALTON, Mass. -- A tough season came to a tough end for the Hoosac Valley boys' soccer team, which gave up four goals in the first half on its way to a 7-0 loss at Wahconah on Wednesday.

Freshman Kevin Boino scored his first career hat trick for the Warriors (7-6-3), who clinched a berth in the Western Mass. tournament with a win in the final game of the regular season. With the loss, the Hurricanes fell to 1-13-2 in Nate Girard's first year as head coach.

"What can I say other than Wahconah was awake and we were asleep," Girard said. "It was heartbreaking for my team to not show up in their last contest of the year. After being snowed out a couple of days and having the game rescheduled twice, my team forgot to get off the bus and let Wahconah capitalize on their Senior Day."

Anthony Delmolino got the hosts off to super-fast start, scoring off of a pass from Dean Nichols just 67 seconds after the opening whistle. Boino then sandwiched a pair of tallies around a strike from James Schmidt to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead at halftime. Hoosac actually outshot Wahconah 10-5 in the second half, but the hosts increased their lead on another goal from Boino and one each by Pat Jamross and Eric Klem.

"The defense took quite a pounding, and I did my best to spread playing time to all the seniors," Girard said. "They played hard but came up short. We had a total of eight opportunities on net, with five of them coming in a five-minute span and couldn't score on the Wahconah goalie's aggressiveness.

"They couldn't miss, and we couldn't score."

Nick Tutela earned the shutout in goal for the Warriors by making seven saves. Junior Tom Galisa got the start in net for the 'Canes. He allowed five goals and made five saves before giving way to Chris Gajda, who gave up two goals with two stops in relief.
