PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Monument Mountain boys soccer team defeated Taconic Monday afternoon, 6-1, at Taconic High School.

The Spartans controlled the tempo of the game, but the Braves held them scoreless until 22 minutes into the first half when Matt Weston was found open inside the 18 and gave Monument a 1-0 lead.

From there, the visitors didn't look back; adding three more goals before half-time.

They came from Matt Amstead and Chris Norton, who added two.

Six minutes into the start of the second half a penalty was called on Monument just before the midfield mark.

Taconic defender Nicholas Donahue set up for the free kick; he sent it soaring in over Monument goalie Justin Bartlett's head putting the score at 4-1.

Unfortunately for the home team the Spartans were able to add two more to earn their second win of the season.

Cody Latimer had thirteen saves in net for Taconic, Bartlett had one for Monument.

Taconic (3-3-1) plays Tuesday at St. Joseph. Monument plays Thursday against Cathedral.
