PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Carter Matthews scored twice and set up a goal, and Avi Snowise stopped seven shots Saturday to lead the Pittsfield boys soccer team to a season-opening, 4-0, win over Westfield.

Matthews broke a scoreless tie with a goal off an assist from Sam Higuera in the 42nd minute.

“Westfield held a very organized, compact formation for the first half,” Pittsfield coach Andrew Antil said. “We had to completely change our game plan at half-time, and our players did a great job executing.”

Moments later, Matthews set up Seyvon Kouao to make it 2-0.

Higuera assisted on Matthews’ second goal of the game in the 50th minute, and Dylan Thompson closed out the scoring with help from Freddy Lopez.

Pittsfield hosts Wahconah on Wednesday.
