CHESHIRE, Mass. -- After suffering a 6-0 defeat against Lenox on Oct. 2, the Hoosac Valley boys soccer team, suffering injuries, was able to hold the Millionaires to a 5-1 result on Thursday.

The Hurricanes put in the first goal after holding the Millionaires scoreless until the final 8 minutes of the game.

It came for Hoosac with 9 minutes, 30 seconds on the clock; Paolo Kareh recieved the ball in the midfield and sent a ball through Lenox's defensive line. Dante Richards, playing attack, was able to get the ball at his feet and slot it past Lenox's goalie, who came out to challenge the play.

Hoosac went up 1-0, but the lead didn't hold for long.

"As soon as they scored, of course, that brought the intensity up," Lenox head coach Dave Pugh said.

Lenox put in the equalizer a minute and half later and it came from Emerson Wolski after rebounding a deflected save by Hoosac goalie John Horton.

Just 44 seconds later Wolski hit the net again to give Lenox a 2-1 lead and the intensity they were searching for all game.

"I told them that it shouldn't haven taken us going down 1-0 to get some intensity in a match," Pugh said. "Sometimes teams play to their opponent, we try to play the same game every night.

"I give Hoosac credit. They played a heck of a game for 70 minutes."

A minute after Wolski's second goal, Matt Heim found himself open outside the 18 and advanced his team's lead to 3-1.

The Hurricanes continued to battle and moved some players around after a timeout call. They pushed defensive player Collin Rousseau to a forward position along with two other players moving up front.

"I'm very very proud of our guys, we've lost two starters to injuries from the Drury game," Hoosac coach Mike Russo said. "Because they [Lenox] beat us in the first game I think they may have come in a little over confident; a 1-0 lead with 9 minutes left and I think we just ran out of steam at the end.

"Once they got the first goal they [Lenox] were all over us, but again for 70 minutes we were right there."

Lenox's final two goals came in the final two minutes from Nic Baruch. The first was off a penalty kick after going down in the box, the second came from a Hoosac attempt to clear the ball out of the box; Baruch was able to get a hold of the ball and put it on net to secure a 5-1 victory.

Lenox (6-3-1) hosts Gateway Friday and Hoosac (3-4-4) hosts Wahconah Monday.
