CHESHIRE, Mass. — In a back-and-forth shootout, junior Sean Ryan-Kut had the last bullet in his gun to lift the Hoosac Valley boys' soccer to a 4-3 win over Saint Joseph's on Monday.

Ryan-Kut headed in a cross from senior Nick Ryan in the 78th minute, helping the Hurricanes to a pivotal South Division win. Hoosac (6-5-1 overall) now stands at 4-1 in league play, while the Crusaders (6-8) fall to 4-3 in the South. The two teams are tied atop the division, but the 'Canes have three more league games still to play.

Monday's match was truly a shootout, as each team alternated goals until Ryan-Kut's game winner proved to be the difference. Hoosac held a slight 14-12 edge in shots, while St. Joe's earned a slim 4-3 margin in corner kicks. Ryan-Kut started and finished the scoring for the hosts, giving his team a 1-0 lead by scoring off an assist from classmate Shaun Knapp 13 minutes into the game.

Matt Begrowicz answered for the visitors three minutes later before the game got really crazy later in the first half. Three goals were scored in a span on three minutes, one by the Hurricanes' Lucas Bourdon, one by the Crusaders' Jongmun Hong and one by Ryan, making the score 3-2 Hoosac at halftime. The match settled down in the second half before Collin Anderson eventually tied it for St. Joe's off of a pass from Mike Paplowski in the 67th minute.

Hurricanes' goalie Tom Galisa (10 saves) didn't allow another goal, however, and Ryan-Kut took care of the rest to give Hoosac its second win in a row. Shaun Parzick stopped eight shots in net for the Crusaders.

Hoosac next hosts Mount Everett in another South Division game at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
