Ghidotti Goes Off in Devils' First Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury girls' soccer hasn't gotten off to the best start this season. In two games, the Blue Devils managed just one goal in a pair of losses, leaving head coach Molly Meczywor to say her team left more than a few plays out on the field.

Starting slow wasn't a problem for Drury on Thursday, however, as Cori Ghidotti sparked a fire for the Devils' offense, scoring three goals in the first half alone and the first four strikes of the game to carry the hosts to a 7-0 win over Mount Everett. The Drury junior scored her first goal unassisted less than seven minutes into the game before hooking up with classmate Alison Tassone for two more scores before halftime.

"We possessed the ball very well and moved without the ball to create space and scoring opportunities," Meczywor said. "The work of Cori, Alison and Chelsea DeGroff was especially effective and unselfish, as they continued to look for the open teammate."

The Blue Devils (1-2) started sharing the ball even more in the second half. After Ghidotti scored her fourth goal of the game off a pass from senior Jen Monyahan midway through the period, three other Drury players collected their first goals of the season. Junior Hannah Collier, DeGroff and Monyahan each scored within the final 15 minutes to give the Devils their first win of the season.

Eagles' goalie Sam Hoover did an admirable job in net, stopping 14 of the 21 shots she faced in the game. Led by the solid play of senior stopper Amanda Ramsdell, the Drury duo of Ali Tatro and Alison Cellana didn't need to make a single save to earn the shutout in net.

"Overall, this was a good team win," Meczywor said. "Everyone contributed and demonstrated improvement regarding passing, positioning and communication. Hopefully, today's efforts will carry over to two South Division games next week."

Drury next plays at Lee at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday before playing at Mount Greylock at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
