McCann Earns Season Sweep over Putnam

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- One game after suffering its first tie in Tri-County League play, the McCann Tech girls' soccer team got right back on track with a 5-0 home win over Putnam. The Hornets swept the season series with the Beavers, outscoring the visitors 11-0 in two games. 

Senior Mary Nguyen recorded her seventh hat trick of the season, scoring two goals in the first half before adding a goal and an assist in the second half. Junior Eileen Zajac started the scoring for McCann (13-1-1, 10-0-1), scoring off of a pass from senior Alexa Durant in the seventh minute of play. Nguyen then scored twice in the final 17 minutes of the first half before setting up fellow captain Alex Lincoln for a goal of her own in the 59th minute. 

Nguyen then added an insurance tally with six and half minutes left on the clock, cashing in on an assist from senior Evelyn Colon. Junior Alex Wood and freshman Abbi Luczynski combined to make three saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Hornets, who next hosts St. Mary's at 4 p.m. on Friday. 

Brittney Spaulding made seven stops in goal for Putnam.
