SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Lauren Edwards scored in the 74th minute to break a scoreless tie and send the Mount Everett girls soccer team to a 1-0 win over Taconic on Monday.

Mariah Broderick set up Edwards for the game-winning goal.

“The girls played so hard for all 80 minutes, physically and mentally,” Mount Everett coach Jessica Murtagh said. “They decided to work hard, and it paid off. [Goalkeeper] Madison Ullrich anchored the defense as usual, while Logan Rathbun, Ashley Kerzner and Lauren Edwards organized the middle of the field very nicely.”

Ullrich made five saves to earn the shutout.

Jackie Boateng had five saves for Taconic (6-10).

Mount Everett (4-9-1) hosts Gateway on Wednesday.
