Hoosac Valley, Monument Mountain Girls Play to a Draw

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Alie Mendel scored late in the first half to erase a one-goal deficit as the Hoosac Valley girls soccer team Tuesday earned a 1-1 tie against Monument Mountain.
 
“We played a great game tonight,” Hoosac Valley coach Kathy Budaj said. “Monument is a tough team and it was nice to see us compete with them. Everyone worked hard and I am pleased with our pressure. We continue to knock on the door of our opponents and good things are happening.”
 
Zufan Bazzano gave the Spartans an early lead with a goal in the fifth minute.
 
Mendel scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute to tie it.
 
Hoosac Valley’s Grace Kronick and Monument Mountain’s Helen Pajeski made two and five saves, respectively.
 
The Hurricanes (4-2-5) host Pittsfield on Friday.
 
Monument Mountain (7-2-5) hosts Mount Greylock on Friday.
