WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Allison Kinne scored twice to lead the Monument Mountain girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Mount Greylock on Monday afternoon.

The Spartans (5-2) earned a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal on the way to their third straight victory -- all by the same score.

"We really created a lot of opportunities for ourselves," Monument coach Jess Platt said. "I was really proud of that. I thought we were playing a good possession game and connecting passes.

"I was really happy to see that."

All that possession paid off in the 12th minute when Kinne launched a shot from high on the left wing that soared over the 18-yard box and just under the cross bar to give her team the lead.

Mount Greylock answered seven minutes later when Melissa Swann sent a cross from the right wing into the box for Caroline Flynn.

Flynn's header went off the crossbar, but she cashed in her own rebound for her sixth goal of the year to make it 1-1.

Unfortunately for the Mounties (3-4) on frame chances were rare, even when they were able to solve the Monument midfield and get pressure in the offensive third.

"It's been a little bit of a pattern," Mount Greylock coach Tom Ostheimer said. "We're knocking on the door and just haven't been getting that last finish.

"So we've got to figure out how we're going to get a little more offense. Our defense is pretty strong. We let up that high goal early on, that floater, and that happens."

Monument's second goal came in the 54th minute. Crista Cardillo sent Kinne through the middle of the box with a through ball, and Kinne finished to put the Spartans back on top.

Emily Shaw made three saves to earn the win in the Spartans' net.

Tenley Smith made 13 saves for Mount Greylock.

Monument Mountain has a tough test against Pittsfield on Wednesday in Great Barrington.

Platt said she is happy with how her team is playing as the season's first month comes to a close.

"Going into October, we've played just under half our schedule," she said. "We're going strong and steady and trying to keep the big picture in mind. We're trying to play for November, and we'll see what we can do."

Mount Greylock travels to face Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
