DALTON, Mass. -- For the Pittsfield girls soccer team, good things came in threes.

The Generals scored three unanswered goals on Tuesday to earn their third straight win and earn a berth in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 tournament with a 3-1 win over Wahconah.

Hayley Tobin stopped five shots, and three different Generals scored to lift PHS (6-9-3) into a second-place finish in the Berkshire County North Division.

Wahconah (7-7-4) entered Tuesday’s game with a chance to finish second itself, but it is postseason bound anyway thanks to its .500 record.

The hosts got their Senior Day celebration started in style when senior Arden McKnight scored off a cross into the box from Chloe Accardi in the 11th minute.

Wahconah dominated the opening stages of the game, but Pittsfield called a timeout midway through the first half that allowed the Generals to regroup and turn the tide.

One minute after the TO, Kendra Buda had a shot on goal from high on the right wing that Sage Howes (five saves) leapt up to deny. Moments later, Sadie Tierney had a try out of a scramble following a Pittsfield corner kick.

Finally, with less than a minute left in the half, Julia Eline-Wright launched a shot from about 25 yards out that curled under the crossbar for the equalizer.

After intermission, Pittsfield went ahead on what appeared to be an own goal when Taea Bramer’s shot looked to deflect off a defender and into the net in the 42nd minute. The officials awarded the goal to Bramer, her first of the season, and Pittsfield had a goal it did not relinquish.

In the closing seconds, the Generals added some insurance when Makailey Cookis set up classmate Molly Tierney with a cross from the right wing, and Tierney finished for fifth goal of the season and third in the last three games.

Both Wahconah and Pittsfield learn Wednesday morning where and against whom they will open their Western Mass tournament runs.
