MONSON, Mass. -- Bahu Abdul-Wadud scored 22 points Thursday to lead the Monson boys basketball team to a 73-54 win over McCann Tech in the Western Massachusetts Division 4 quarter-finals.

Wadud did most of his damage in the second quarter, when he went to the foul line for nine shots and hit eight of them on his way to a 12-point quarter.

The Mustangs (12-10) outscored sixth-seeded McCann Tech (17-5) by a margin of 22-4 in that quarter to take a 39-21 lead into half-time.

For the Hornets, Billy Galipeau and Logan Tower each scored 15 points, the latter on five 3-pointers. Jake Tower added nine points.

Monson moved on to next week’s sectional semi-finals, where it will meet second-seeded Granby at Curry Hicks Cage in Amherst.
