Three Local Golfers Compete at State Championships

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Lee High School's Thomas Fraser carded a 7-over-par round of 77 on Tuesday to earn 13th place at the Division 3 State Championship meet at Wyantenuck Country Club.
 
Lee, who won a Western Mass Championship earlier in the month, finished seven strokes behind the state medalist, Christian Emmerich of St. Mary's of Lynn.
 
Emmerich finished at 1-under 69 in leading his team to a state team title. St. Mary's finished at 292, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Weston.
 
Western Mass squads Monson and Franklin Tech finished at 347 and 358, respectively.
 
Division 2
 
Two Berkshire County players competed as individuals in the Division 2 State Championsihp at Grafton's Highfields Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.
 
Wahconah's Nate Dos Santos, the Western Mass medalist, finished tied for 27th with an 11-over 83. Mount Greylock's Ben Gilooly tied for 40th at 89.
 
The medalist at the D2 state meet was Catholic Memorial's Andrew O'Leary, who carded a 3-under 69, five strokes ahead of the two golfers who tied for second place.
 
Hopkinton won the team title with a score of 312, three strokes better than runner-up Hingham.
 
From Western Mass, Southwick and South Hadley finished at 333 and 360, respectively.
 
The Division 1 championships at Haverhill Country Club, originally scheduled for this week, were moved to Nov. 6 due to weather.
