PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Mason Alfonso had a hat trick, and Logan Spagnuolo stopped 31 shots Wednesday to lead the Taconic hockey team to a 5-2 win over Mount Everett at the Boys & Girls Club.

“I’ll tell you what, there were at least three or four point blank saves in the first period and a half,” Taconic coach Jeff Daury said. “I thought in some ways that was a big momentum shift for us.”

Spagnuolo made 14 saves in a back-and-forth second period that ended with Nikos Gian scoring from deep on the right wing to break a 2-2 tie.

Alfonso added one insurance goal and set up Aiden Kotski for another in the third period as Taconic picked up its first win under Daury.

Mount Everett got the scoring early in the first when Jake Corcoran set up Mason Lynehan. Midway through the period, Alfonso scored an unassisted power play goal to tie it.

Alfonso then opened the second period with a goal assisted by Ryan LaPierre to give Taconic a 2-1 lead.

“That’s our green line -- between Alfonso and Kotski and LaPierre,” Daury said. “They had a really strong game. And certainly some of the older guys did, too, but that line played exceptionally well. I think they were plus three or plus four tonight. It was nice to see.”

Corcoran scored on a breakaway to tie it for the Eagles before Brandon Peaslee and Connor Champoux set up Gian for the eventual game-winner.

Jack Seward Daley stopped 18 shots for Mount Everett, which went 0-for-4 on the power play, including a four-minute opportunity in the first period.

Power-play chances against were a big factor in Taconic’s loss to Wahconah last week, and Daury said that staying out of the box remains a priority for his team.

“I still think that lack of discipline is a little bit of a work in progress,” he said. “I think tonight the kids realized that when they do come to play and do it the right way and move the puck, they’re going to have an awful lot of success.”

Mount Everett hosts Newtown, Conn., on Friday. Taconic goes to North Adams to play Wahconah next Wednesday.
