Taconic Third at Mountie Invitational

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Shawn O'Shea and Zabion Powell each earned an individual title in leading the Taconic wrestling team to a third-place finish in Saturday's Mountie Invitational at MCLA.
 
At 197 pounds, O'Shea earnd a pair of wins in the quarter-finals and sem-finals before beating Frontier's Nate Austin, 5-2, in the championship.
 
Powell earned the title at 147 with four pins on the day.
 
His longest bout of the tournament came in the finals, where he stopped Yaisn Sidig of Colonie, N.Y., in 3 minutes, 9 seconds.
 
Colonie edged Taconic by half a point in the team standings.
 
Rhode Island's Chariho High School was the team champion with five individual titles and 270 team points.
 
Colonie, without winning an individual title, amassed 211 points. Taconic was third with 210.5 points.
 
Mount Everett matched Taconic with two individual titles and placed eighth in the 17-team field.
 
The Eagles got wins from Zack Lupiani at 108 and Pat Fosby at 122.
 
Lupiani pinned his first two opponents in less than half a minute. In the finals, he stopped Monument Mountain's Caleb Pollard in 3:05.
 
Fosby also earned pins in each of his matches. He wrestled four times on the day, ending with a 1:13 pin over South Hadley's Joe Podolak.
 
Mount Everett finished with 90 points, just ahead of ninth-place Monument (84 points) and the host Mounties of Mount Greylock, who were 10th with 66 points.
 
The Spartans got a title from John Field at 172.
 
Field started the day with a couple of quick pins in the first minute in the prelims and quarters. Then he beat a pair grapplers from Chariho, both by scores of 7-4.
 
Mount Greylock's top finishers each placed third in his respective weight class.
 
At 100 pounds, Ty Lepicier lost in the semi-finals to Mount Everett's Nick Lupiani, 9-3. Lepicier then beat Granby's Emmett Seibert, 4-2, in the third-place match.
 
Nick Belouin ended his day with a win at 287.
 
After falling in the semis to a wrestler from Colonie, Belouin came back and beat Hampshire's Tallon Garelli, 8-4.
 
The annual tournament was moved to MCLA this year because uncertainty about the availability of Mount Greylock's gym during the school's addition/renovation project.
