Taconic, Monument Wrestlers in Contention at State Meet

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Taconic and Monument Mountain each sent two wrestlers into Saturday’s semi-finals through 10 weight classes at the Division 3 State Championships at Wakefield High on Friday.
 
At 170 pounds, both Taconic’s Dylan Burke and Monument Mountain’s John Field advanced in Friday’s quarter-finals.
 
Field is joined in the semis by teammate Sam Cormier, who advanced at 132. Taconic’s Zabion Powell joins Burke in the semis after a pair of Friday pins.
 
Powell started his day by stopping Gloucester’s Liam Donahue at the 5 minute, 18 second mark of their match. He then pinned Scituate’s Sean Tobin in 1:43.
 
Burke earned a 9-2 decision in his opener and pinned Norton’s Isaiah Chinchilla in 5:12 in the quarters.
 
Cormier also recorded a pin the quarter-finals, stopping Joey Bonina of Advanced Math & Science at 3:03 of their match.
 
Field pinned Middleborough’s Jacob Studley at 5:11 of their bout in the round of eight.
