Mount Greylock Girls Join Boys Team Atop Western Mass

NORTHFIELD, Mass. -- Mount Greylock freshman Jacqueline Wells won by 13 seconds Saturday to lead the Mounties to the team championship at the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championships.
 
The Mounties' girls unseated defending champion Lenox to join Mount Greylock's boys on the top of the podium.
 
Jesse Seid led the boys in their ninth eighth straight sectional title and the sweep for the school at this year's meet, finishing first in 17:07 at the Northfield Recreational Center.
 
On the girls side, eighth-grader Josie Smith and senior Lilly Wells backed up Jackie Wells by finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
Wells' time of 19:31 was well ahead of runner-up Meghan Davis of Mohawk Trail (19:44).
 
Mount Greylock's boys finished well ahead of runner-up Frontier with 38 points to Frontier's 63.
 
Seid's time of 17:07 was 14 seconds faster than runner-up Carsten Carey of Frontier.
 
The Mounties placed three more boys in the top 10 with Sam Culver, Josh Cheung and Jacob Fink finishing third, seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
Lenox's boys, who finished third, got a fifth-place finish from Ted Yee (17:50).
 
Lenox's boys were led by Magdalena Sorrentino, who placed fifth in 20:16 to lead the Millionaires to a second-place finish.
 
Mount Greylock's girls put all five of their scorers in the top 20 to finsih with 42 points, just ahead of runner-up Lenox 45, who finished well ahead of third-place Hampshire (117 points).
 
Hazel Scullin, Kate Swann and MacKenzie Sheehy finished 13th, 15th and 19th for the Mount Greylock girls.
 
Monument Mountain was led by Jasmin Johansdottir, who posted a time of 22:25. Lee's Anna Martin finished in 40th place at 23:33. The Hoosac Valley trio of Jamie Barthe (25:13), Paige Barrow and Natiya Cilli finished within just more than a second of one another.
 
The girls Division 1 title went to Amherst-Pelham, and the Hurricanes' Sophia Jacobs-Towns won the individual title in a time of 19:26, 37 seconds ahead of runner-up Mary Yount of Northampton.
 
Wahconah's girls finished fifth in Western Mass, with freshman Kaley Crosier leading the way with a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in 21:00.
 
Seventh-place Pittsfield was led by Cami Diehl, who placed 30th in 22:23. Taconic was led by Mary Hayes, who finished 15th in 21:37 to lead her team to an 11th-place showing.
 
In the D2 boys race, Monument Mountain's Peter LaRochelle led his team with a time of 18:23, good for 15th place. Lee's Sebastion Dowd-Smith placed 30th in 18:53. And Mount Everett's Grayson Duval and Cole Duval were neck-and-neck in 31st and 32nd, respectively, both clocking times of 19:00.
 
Pittsfield's boys finished sixth in Division 1 behind Paul Wales (17:11) and Amin Purry, who placed eighth and 10th, respectively.
 
Taconic's boys were led to a seventh-place finish by Jake Paris (17:27), who was 15th overall. Wahconah's P.J. Pharmer (18:30) ran to a 37th-place finish, leading his team to 13th place.
