Lenox Girls Win State Championship

GARDNER, Mass. -- Lenox sophomore Grace Elliot finished in sixth place to lead the Millionaires to a first-place finish at Saturday's Massachusetts Division 2 State Championship at Gardner Municipal Golf Course.
 
Elliot crossed the line in 19 minutes, 47 seconds as Lenox amassed 98 points and finished 37 points ahead of runner-up Mount Greylock.
 
The Mounties were paced by Katherine Swann's third-place finish, the highest finish by a Berkshire County runner on Saturday. Swann covered the 5-kilometer course in 19:28, just less than a minute behind champion Carmel Fitzgibbon of Weston, who helped her team place 11 out of 20 D2 squads.
 
Western Mass individual champion Emily Boutin of Pope Francis placed second, finishing in 18:46.
 
Lenox placed four runners in the top 25 in the 176-runner field.
 
Ellen Huth (20:10) was 16th, Alice Culver (20:32) was 20th and Ava Bachman (20:44) was 25th. Audrey Touloukian rounded out the scoring for the Millionaires, placing 93rd overall (62nd for team-scoring purposes), in 22:22.
 
Five Berkshire County teams competed at Saturday's all-state championships.
 
In the Division 2 boys race, Lenox placed 10th and Monument Mountain finished 14th.
 
The Pittsfield girls placed 20th in the D1 girls race.
 
In the latest renewal of the rivalry between the Lenox and Mount Greylock girls, the Mounties scored times from Grace Malone (20:47), Lily McDermott (21:22), Jacqueline Wells (21:47) and Ainsley Abel (21:55) in addition to Swann.
 
Lenox's girls finished with an average time of 20:43, 20 seconds ahead of Mount Greylock's average of 21:03.80.
 
Monument Mountain placed two girls running as individuals in the D2 field. Kiera O'Rourke (22:27) and Eliza Philip (24:22) each represented the Spartans.
 
The fastest Berkshire County boys on Saturday was Lenox's Ted Yee, who clocked a time of 17:00 to place 10th and lead the Millionaires to their 10th-place team finish.
 
Backing up Yee were Colin Young (17:41) in 44th, Maxwell Adam (17:55) in 70th, Dennis Love (18:20) in 103rd and Harry Touloukian (18:50) in 122nd.
 
Lenox finished with 230 points to finish right in the middle of the pack. Martha's Vineyard won the D2 boys title with 148 points. Arlington Catholic's Sean Kay won the individual title in 16:03.
 
Hoosac Valley's Justin Levesque finished in 18:54 and Mount Greylock's Parker Winters clocked a time of 19:00 running as individuals.
 
Three individuals represented Berkshire County in the D1 boys race.
 
Pittsfield's Emanuel Brown led the county contingent with a time of 18:06 in a race won by King Philip's Mike Griffin in 16:06. Taconic's Jacob Paris (18:31) and Wahconah's Hayden Kendall (18:35) also competed.
 
Pittsfield's girls were led by Kellie Harrington, who finished 18th with a time of 19:55, just more than a minute behind winner Lucy Jenks of Newton South (18:53).
 
Cami Diehl (20:53), Megan Francoeur (22:29), Emelyn Theriault (22:57) and Abby Kittler (23:04) rounded out the scoring for Pittsfield.
 
Haley Crosier (20:30) placed 40th running as an individual for Wahconah. Her teammate Olivia Gamberoni finished in 22:36.
 
Taconic's Ahliya Phillips was just behind Gamberoni in 22:39.
