Szczepaniak Leads Mount Greylock Girls to Win

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Julie Szczepaniak was a triple winner as an individual and ran on a winning relay to help the Mount Greylock girls track and field team to a 108-33 win over Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.
 
In the boys meet, Matt Provost and Trevor Ciempa were double winners to lead the Hurricanes to a 100-41 win over the Mounties.
 
Szczepaniak won the 100 meter dash in 13.4 seconds, edging Hosoac's Maddie Vigna by one-tenth of a second. Szczepaniak then won the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 1 inch, and the triple jump in 29-11.
 
She also ran the first leg on Mount Greylock's 4-by-100 relay, which finished in 55.9 seconds.
 
Jackie Van Slyke was a double winner in the throws for Mount Greylock, capturing the discus (84-2) and shot put (30-0.5).
 
Kayla Garabedion earned a win for Hoosac Valley in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 1:12.1, two-tenths of a second ahead of Mount Greylock's Brandi Gill.
 
In the boys meet, Provost won the 400 in 1:08.2 and the javelin with a throw of 122-5. Peter Barrow and Zach Wright completed a Hoosac sweep in the throws with marks of 121-8 in the javelin and 39-7 in the shot put, respectively.
 
Ciempa won the high jump, clearing 6-2, and the 800 (2:02).
 
Tyler Mach outdueled teammate Dante Sandifer in the 100, winning by a margin of two-tenths of a second in 11.3. Mach and Sandifer ran together on the Canes' winning 4-by-100 relay (44.8), and Sandifer won the long jump in 20-1.
 
Carter Stripp won the mile (4:39) and placed second in the 800 (2:07) for Mount Greylock.
