Wahconah Boys, Girls Sweep Duals at Hoosac Valley

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Senior Gianna Moncecchi was a triple winner Thursday to lead the Wahconah girls track and field team to a pair of dual meet wins over Drury and Hoosac Valley.

Moncecchi won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.28 seconds, the 400 hurdles in 1:12.44 and the long jump in 15 feet, 4 inches. She also placed third in the high jump, clearing 4-6.

Her teammate Lilian Pudlo won the high jump by clearing 4-8,won the triple jump (31-4) and ran a leg on the team’s victorious 4-by-400 relay team (4:51.05).

In the boys meet, Wahconah’s Devon Mikaniewicz and Sean Harvey were each double winners to help their team sweep the duals from Drury and Hoosac.

Mikaniewicz won the long jump (19-0.25) and the triple jump (38-2). Harvey won the 110 hurdles (16.15) and 400 hurdles (1:00.89).

For host Hoosac Valley, Peter Barrow won the shot put (42-0.5) and the discus (124-8). Drury’s Connor Meehan won the 800 (2:12.32) and the 1600 (4:45.47).

On the girls side, Hoosac picked up wins from Ellie Field in the 100 (13.77) and Jamie Barthe in the 1600 (5:44.70). Drury’s girls dominated the throws, where Beth Billetz won the shot put (25-3), Katie Toomey won the discus (79-11) and the trio of Laura Thomas, Ashton Goyette and Kelly Therrien went 1-2-3 in the javelin. Thomas’ mark was 89-3.5.

Girls team scores: Wahconah 87, Hoosac 54; Wahconah 100, Drury 41; Hoosac 79.5, Drury 60.5.
Boys team scores: Wahconah 78, Hoosac 68; Wahconah 103, Drury 30; Hoosac 107, Drury 33.
