Smith, Wells Lead Mount Greylock Girls Cross Country Over Lenox

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Josephine Smith and Jacqueline Wells Wednesday led the Mount Greylock girls cross country team to a 20-36 win over Lenox at Monument Mountain.
 
Smith placed first overall at the five-team event, finishing in 19 minutes, 35.23 seconds. Wells was right behind her in second in 19:43.0 as the Mounties placed five runners in the top 10.
 
The Millionaires four top 10 finishers led by Ellen Huth (19:50.98) in third place.
 
On the boys side, Mount Greylock defeated Lenox and Monument Mountain in dual meets. The Mounties had the top two finishers in the boys race once again with Josh Cheung (17:12.72) edging teammate Jesse Seid.
 
Monument Mountain’s Peter Larochelle was third in 17:36.14 as the hosts defeated Lenox.
 
Lenox earned a dual meet win over Lee behind Colin Young’s seventh place finish. He crossed the line in 18:13.59.
 
Lee’s boys edged Mount Everett in the day’s closest dual, 27-32. The Wildcats were led by a 14th-place finish from Sebastian Dowd-Smith (18:50.75). The Eagles fell despite a strong individual performance by Cole Duval, who placed fourth overall in a time of 18:07.94.
 
Mount Greylock’s girls earned a pair of dual meet wins at the event, picking up a victory over host Monument Mountain, which was led by Grace Phair (20:11.83) in fifth place overall.
 
Lenox also beat Monument. The Millionaires also ran against Lee, who was led by Amber MacDowell (24:36.19).
 
The Wildcats picked up a dual meet win of their own, defeating Mount Everett, which was led by Carly Duval (25:50.98).
