Swann Leads Mount Greylock Girls to Victory in New York

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Mount Greylock sophomore Katherine Swann covered the 5-kilometer course at Saratoga Spa State Parkin 18 minutes, 29.06 seconds Saturday to win first place and lead the Mounties to a team championship in the varsity Division 1 girls division at the Burnt Hills Invitational.
 
Swann finished more than eight seconds ahead of runner-up Lily Potthast of Ausable Valley, N.Y.
 
She was joined in the top 20 by Mount Greylock teammates Jacqueline Wells in 11th and Miriam Bakija in 17th.
 
Also scoring for Mount Greylock were Sophia Mele and Ainsley Abel.
 
Mount Greylock finished with 76 points to beat Rochester, N.Y.'s, Harley Allendale Columbia, which amassed 95 points.
 
Mount Greylock's girls ran away with the Modified division title by a wide margin, finishing with 27 points, well ahead of runner-up Scotia-Glenville with 109.
 
The Mounties took first, third, fifth and sixth in the 3K race.
 
Eighth-grader Erin Keating led the way with a time of 11:55.15, eight seconds ahead of Kaylee Grayson of Saratoga Springs (12:03.37).
 
Mount Greylock also scored finishes from Grace Malone, Lily McDermott, Cecilia Malone and Emily Oulette.
 
In the Division 1 boys varsity race, Mount Greylock placed third with 116 points in a race won by Honeoye Central, N.Y. with 98 points.
 
Eigth-grader Ollie Swabey led Mount Greylock, finishing sixth in 16:53.93. Andrew Drescher of Duanesburg, N.Y., won the 5K in 15:42.26.
 
Swabey was joined in the scoring column by teammates Charlie McWeeny, Parker Winters, Corban Miller and Patrick Aliberti.
 
Mount Greylock's youngsters also finished third in the boys Modified race. The Mounties had 98 points to finish behind host Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (69 points) and Monroe-Woodbury, N.Y. (87).
 
Schuylerville, N.Y.'s, Luck Decker set the pace with a time of 11:09.65.
 
Mount Greylock's Jude Bakija was fourth in 11:26.48.
 
Other Mounties scoring in the Modified race were Andrew Petropulos, Vincent Welch, Ryan Keating and Quin Repetto.
 
Mount Greylock's girls also fielded a team in the Freshman Girls 3K, where the Mounties were fourth, led by an 18th-place finish from eighth-grader Sarah Polumbo (13:24.48).
