WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock boys tennis team earned a 4-1 win over Monument Mountain on Monday while the Spartans' girls upended the Mounties, 5-0, at Williams College's Torrence M. Hunt Tennis Courts.

Nine of the 10 matches were decided in straight sets, including a showdown at No. 1 singles on the boys side where Mount Greylock's Nyein Soe defeated Satchel Fisher, 6-2, 6-1.

"The last time, it was a close one," Soe said. "I had to save a match point in the third set.

"I guess this time, I just started off playing a lot cleaner from the beginning. He has a huge first serve, and I was just getting them back pretty easy today."

Soe said he has been battling Fisher since he was 10 years old, so he is pretty familiar with the Spartan's game.

"I was more aggressive on my forehand, I guess, and going for more drop shots and volleys," Soe said.

"I was trying to use the variety I use against most opponents. Last time, when it was really close, I wasn't going for it as much. It's just a confidence issue, I guess."

At No. 2 singles, Mount Greylock's Will Nolan defeated Kadin Shafiroff, 6-1, 6-1. Monument picked up a point at No. 3 singles, where Kevin Costello defeated Josh Nary, 6-3, 6-3.

Mount Greylock's No. 1 doubles tandem of Jake Foehl and Gray Kaegi overcame a slow start to win, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Matt Wiseman and Brady Foehl earned a point for the Mounties at No. 2 doubles.

On the girls side, Monument's Cara Freadman defeated Tara Shastri at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Molly Amstead and Lexy Shumsky picked up singles wins for the Spartans at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

In doubles, the Spartans got wins from the tandems of Carly Shafiroff/Hailey Higgins and Kaye Kelly/Olivia Jaffe.
