Smith, Culver Lead Mount Greylock at Mount Everett

SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Margo Smith led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Mount Greylock girls cross country team at Tuesday’s race at Mount Everett.
 
The Mounties’ boys were dominant as well, taking five of the top six spots and eight of the top 10.
 
On the girls side, Smith finished in 19 minutes, 40 seconds to edge teammate Niku Darafshi, who finished in 19:52. Emily Lescarbeau was third for the Mounties in 20:08.
 
Wahconah’s Gabrielle and Danielle Orlando placed fourth and sixth respectively, in 20:09 and 20:11. Mount Greylock’s Hazel Scullin snuck in between the sisters for a fifth-place finish.
 
Pittsfield’s Lessley Columna cracked the top 10, finishing seventh in 20:19.
 
The top girls for Hoosac Valley and host Mount Everett were Jamie Barthe (12th in 21:18) and Janet Ngoyimwanza (43rd in 24:49) and Carly Duval (32nd in 23:03).
 
Mount Greylock junior Sam Culver won the boys race in 16:56, fewer than two seconds ahead of Pittsfield’s Greg Fournier (16:58).
 
After Fournier came four Mounties: Cameron Castonguay, Evan Arthur, Owen Brandriss and Jacob Fink. Josh Cheung and Jesse Seid placed eighth and ninth, respectively, for Mount Greylock.
 
Pittsfield’s Lucas Godwin and Paul Wales were seventh and 10th.
 
Wahconah was led by Chris Campos, who placed 15th in 18:28. The host Eagles saw Kenny Edwards (18:46) and Cole Duval place 19th and 20th, respectively. Hoosac Valley’s boys were led by Nolan Christen, who was 36th in 20:01.
