Wells Leads Mount Greylock Girls to Victory in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Jacqueline Wells finished second overall Saturday to lead the Mount Greylock girls cross country team to victory at the Burnt Hills Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park.
 
Wells covered the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 47 seconds, two seconds behind winner Madison Ralyea of Mayfield, N.Y.
 
The Mounties earned 41 points to win the first division of varsity competition, well ahead of Duanesburg, which finished with 114 points.
 
Mount Greylock had three runners in the top 10 among competitors whose schools fielded full teams.
 
Hazel Scullin was ninth overall (seventh in the points race) with a time of 20:00. Miriam Bakija was 12th across the finish line and ninth in points in 20:22. Margo Smith (20:27) was just behind in 14th place (11th for points). Helen Greenfield (20:52) rounded out the Mounties scoring with a 19th place finish (13th in points).
 
The Mounties outpointed 16 schools in the event, which featured 141 runners.
 
Mount Greylock also won the girls modified (middle school) race at the 36th annual event.
 
In that 3K, Mountie Josie Smith (12:03) was the individual winner, finishing in 12:03, 12 seconds ahead of the field.
 
Mount Greylock's MacKenzie Sheehy (12:39) was fifth. Other Mounties scoring were Ainsley Abel (12:59), Sophie Mele (13:09) and Tessa Levesque (13:22).
 
Twenty-one teams competed in the modified race.
