Monument Girls Stay Perfect, Pittsfield Boys Rally for Win

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield boys swim team’s 4-by-100 relay earned a win in the day’s final event Tuesday to secure a 50-44 win over Monument Mountain at the Boys & Girls Club.
 
Connor Hayford, Matt Miller, Conor Mooney and Liam Mooney swam a time of 3 minutes, 51.88 seconds to protect a narrow 43-41 lead for the Generals heading into the finale.
 
Pittsfield took that lead thanks to strong performances by Conor Mooney, Hayford and Miller in the events that immediately preceded the 4-by-100.
 
In the 100-yard backstroke, Mooney (1:08.69) and Hayford went 1-2 to erase a 37-31 Monument lead.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Miller finished in 1:20.91 to edge Monument Mountain’s Jack Glantz and help the Generals take the two-point lead going to the final.
 
In the girls meet, the Spartans wrapped up a 10-0 season with a 66-28 win.
 
Asa Stone won the 200 freestyle (2:06.87) and 100 backstroke (1:03.56), and Olivia Rubino won the 50 free (27.06) and 100 free (58.85) for Monument Mountain.
 
Pittsfield’s girls (8-2) got wins from Szofia Lewis in the 200 individual medley (2:39.37) and Jordan Bradford in the 500 free (5:51.66).
 
Pittsfield’s boys got a win from Mooney in the 100 butterfly, where he finished in 58.05.
 
Monument’s boys got a pair of wins from Ethan Deane, who won the 50 free in 25.87 and the 100 free in 59.61.
 
The Spartans finish the season 6-3-1. Pittsfield’s boys end the year at 6-4.
 
Both schools head to Simon’s Rock on Saturday for the Berkshire County Individuals.
