Mount Greylock Girls, Monument Mountain Boys Win in Tennis Openers

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls tennis team Thursday swept the doubles matches to earn a 3-2 win over Monument Mountain.
 
Both doubles points came in competitive, straight-set matches.
 
At first doubles, Emma Stankiewicz and Orianna VanSlycke teamed for a 6-4, 7-5 win over Hannah Gaunna and Sydney Mack.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Hannah Gilooly and Charlotte Sanford defeated Maddie Conquest and Emily Goudy, 6-0, 6-3.
 
Mount Greylock’s singles point came at No. 3, where Olivia Winters defeated Savannah Nolan, 7-5, 6-2.
 
Monument Mountain picked up wins at first and second singles. At No. 1, Gabi Defelice took a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Josie Dalsin. Oliva Jaffe won the day’s lone three-setter, a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Mia VanDeurzen.
 
Monument Mountain’s boys earned a 4-0 win over the Mounties in a contest with three contested matches.
 
At first first singles, Kadin Shafiroff defeated Troy Michalak, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Zach Griffin earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jonah Hane.
 
The Spartans took a point on a forfeit at third singles, and neither side fielded a second doubles team. At first doubles, Monument Mountain’s David Kilmer and Nick Powell combined on a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nate Verter and Altan McIntosh.
