Pittsfield, Taconic Boys Duel at Hoosac Valley Cross Country Meet

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Although they did not compete against one another in a dual meet on Wednesday, the Pittsfield and Taconic boys cross country teams had a good battle at Hoosac Valley.
 
Pittsfield’s Lucas Godwin won the race in 18 minutes, 36 seconds, and four of his teammates placed in the top nine behind him.
 
Taconic took places two, three and six led by Ryan Serre (18:46) in his runner-up performance. Jake Paris and Greg Fournier were third and sixth, respectively.
 
Pittsfield ended up with the upper hand in the unofficial competition as Greg Forunier and Paul Wales placed fourth and fifth, Noah Shepardson was seventh and Steve Taglieri was ninth.
 
On the girls side, Monument Mountain led the way with the top three spots led by Jasmin Johannsdottir (22:10) in first and Grace and Meryl Phair in second and third, respectively. Maeven Broderick placed sixth for the Spartans.
 
Pittsfield’s Lessley Columna (22:37) was fourth; she was joined in the top 10 by teammates Emelyn Theriault and Julia Jacobsson.
 
Host Hoosac Valley had two top 10 finishers: Jamie Barthe (23:03) in fifth and Nataya Cilli (23:43) in seventh. Lee eighth-grader Amber MacDowell (24:35) rounded out the top 10 with an eighth-place finish.
 
Taconic’s top girl was Carli Scolforo, who placed 14th in 25:01.
After Pittsfield’s and Taconic’s boys split the top seven spots, Monument Mountain’s Nick Gray placed eighth in 19:40, and his teammate Michael Goretti was 10th in 19:46.
 
Lee’s Sebastian Dowd-Smith (21:00) finished in 22nd place. Nolan Christen led the host Hurricanes, placing 28th in 21:23.
