LENOX, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock volleyball team used a balanced offense to win in straight sets Friday at Lenox Memorial High School.

Six members of Mount Greylock recorded multiple kills while five recorded aces in the 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 win.

With Mount Greylock up, 9-1, in the first set, the match was delayed for 20 minutes due to an injury to Ella Smith, one of many friends among the two teams. When play resumed, Lenox quickly tied the match, but Greylock prevailed behind strong defense.

Set 2 was tied 24-all before Mount Greylock took the next two points, and Set 3 was a back-and-forth match until Maddie Albert was able to put together a run of four aces in a row to help Greylock pull ahead for good in the set and take the match.

"This is a small and close volleyball community and members of both teams play together in the off season," Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. "It is an emotional blow to see any of your friends get hurt and I think both teams showed class and sportsmanship throughout this close match."

Hannah Byrnes had seven kills and four blocks for the Mounties, who got 11 digs and seven aces from Marley Buffis. Albert had a big night on the stat sheet with nine digs, six assists, four aces and four kills.

Kayanna Black led Lenox with 11 kills, three aces and three digs. Kristin Miller had eight digs and three aces, and Maddie Barenski had 16 assists for the Millionaires.

Mount Greylock hosts Westfield on Saturday. Lenox hosts Monument Mountain on Monday.
