Lenox Girls Place Third in State

GARDNER, Mass. -- Lenox senior Emma Jourdain placed 13th Saturday to lead the Millionaires to a third-place finish in the Division 2 State Championship race at Gardner Municipal Golf Course.
 
Jourdain clocked a time of 19 minutes, 50 seconds on the 5-kilometer course, finishing 35 seconds behind individual champion Bridget Mitchell of Milton.
 
The Millionaires got a lift from a 23rd-place showing by eighth-grader Ellen Huth (20:16) and scored runs by Magdalena Sorrentino, Marion Huth and Alice Najimy to collect 101 points. The team title was won by Mitchell and MIlton, which finished with 48 points.
 
Mount Greylock’s girls placed sixth in the 19-team field with 209 points. All five Mounties’ scorers placed in the top half of the 172-runner field.
 
Margo Smith led Mount Greylock with a 56th place finish and a time of 21:09. Hazel Scullin, Josie Smith, Alice Glab and Helen Greenfield all scored for Mount Greylock. The other four Mount Greylock scorers were younger than Margo Smith, a sophomore.
 
Monument Mountain sophomore Grace Phair placed 45th running as an individual with a time of 20:49.
 
In the D2 boys race, Mount Greylock was the top finisher from Western Mass with a 10th-place team finish. Jesse Seid led the Mounties’ boys with a 48th place showing, clocking a time of 17:42. Jacob Fink, Evan Arthur, Sam Culver and Josh Cheung scored for Mount Greylock.
 
The top finisher from Western Mass in Saturday’s D2 race was Drury’s Connor Meehan, who ran as an individual. He placed 43rd with a time of 17:35, a little more than a minute behind the individual champion, Newburyport’s Jack Carleo (16:20).
 
The D1 boys title went to Peabody’s Marcelo Rocha with a time of 15:38. Pittsfield’s Paul Wales (18:09) and Lucas Godwin (18:47) competed as individuals, placing 119th and 160th, respectively.
 
In the D1 girls race, Wahconah placed 19th in the the team competition with 435 points, well back of team champion Lexington’s 87.
 
The individual D1 girls title went to Natick sophomore Grace Connolly with a time of 18:27.
 
Wahconah’s top finisher was 10th-grader Danielle Orlando (21:42) in 78th place. Gabrielle Orlando, Kat Bruce, Jessica Houle and Corry Psutka also scored for Wahconah.
